Richmomd E-Venti Marathon Richmomd E-Venti Marathon -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All participants should note that in an effort to make this marathon "fun" the race is a non-timed event. Each participant will receive a randomly drawn playing card from each Starbucks store visited along the race route. At the end of the run, all participants will turn in their cards to the race officials. The cards will then be handed back to all runners at the post-race party where each finishing participant will make the best poker hand possible from the cards they gathered during the race. Midlands 100 Miler Midlands 100 Miler The journey starts at the Winterton Country Club at 19H00 (7pm) on Friday evening, 4th September 2009. The date is selected as the Friday closest to the full moon in August each year. This doesn't reflect on the athletes but is for the purely practical reason of light along the road at night. After the start in the Club gates, the athletes take a right turn onto the Bergville road and then again onto the Colenso Road before rounding a marker and returning past the Club's entrance to begin their epic journey towards the finish at the Carbineers' historic Headquarters in Pietermaritzburg. This short 5km loop allows the field (about 40 - 50 men and women) to spread out a little as they are picked up by their individual seconding vehicles and support team who will escort them along the way. The race passes through Estcourt, where the local Athletics Club treats the runners and seconds to hot soup and warm encouragement. After the climb out of Estcourt the field turns left onto the R103 and negotiates the daunting Griffin's Hill before descending to the cold of Mooi River and the host Club's soup kitchen at the Wimpy (where the management allow us to set up on their lawns and afford athletes and seconds clean toilets and fresh hot water to refresh tired bodies). The half way mark is about 700 metres further along the road towards Rosetta. At Nottingham Road the route takes a right turn just after the subway and rolls on past Michaelhouse and the hamlets of Balgowan, Lidgeton, Lions River (3/4 mark - 120 km) and Tweedie. After crossing the Umgeni River at the foot of the Midmar Dam wall they cross the N3 and enter Howick opposite the Midlands Hospital. Another right turn and they meander through Merrivale, under the N3 and through Merrivale Heights. Over the N3 again and along the Cedara Flats then up through Hilton. The 20 kilometre countdown starts at the Rotunda. At Crossways they turn right and climb over the rise past Cowan House. With 15 km to go, they start the tortuous descent down Sweetwaters Road. At the bottom of the hill begins the looooong haul along the relatively 'flat' Swartkop Road, Mayors Walk and Hoosen Haffajee Street before the last right turn along Chief Albert Luthuli Street, past the City Hall (1,2km to go!) And down to the left turn at the end of the old cemetery and into the welcoming finish at the Drill Hall. This journey will endure for between 15 hours (for the winner) and 26 hours (cut off) for the back markers. October 3, 2014 Samsung Amman International Marat October 3, 2014 Samsung Amman International Marat October 3, 2014 Samsung Amman International Marathon & 10K, 4K kids run Amman, Jordan Welcome to Run Jordan The primary vision of the founding members of Run Jordan was to establish a high-quality and pro-active NGO engaged in the organization of running events and programs for Jordanians of all age categories and physical abilities. In order to achieve this vision, Run Jordan has worked hard to position the country as an international sporting venue and to support and supplement the work of the official sporting bodies, particularly the Jordan Olympic Committee and the Jordan Athletics Federation. The origins of Run Jordan can be traced to the Amman International Marathon – an entity established in 2009 to organize the first marathon road race in the heart of the Jordanian capital. The original founders of the Amman International Marathon include the Greater Amman Municipality and the Neurological Society – an NGO with a long tradition of organizing running events in the country, namely the Dead Sea Ultra Marathon and the Red Sea Half Marathon. The Beirut Marathon Association was also an early supporter of the effort to organize the first Amman Marathon. After four years of successfully organizing a marathon event in Amman, a decision was made by the members of the Amman International Marathon to transform the organization into Run Jordan. The members and partners of Run Jordan include: the Greater Amman Municipality; the Jordan Tourism Board; the Jordan Olympic Committee; the Jordan Paralympic Committee; the Jordan Athletics Federation; the Public Directorates for Public Safety and the Gendarmerie; the International Association of Athletics Federations; the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races; and a broad range of corporate sponsors and partners from the private sector. In order to safeguard the event and guarantee its ongoing place as a premier event on the NZ running calendar, the Legend Charitable Trust was established. The Legend event is now owned and operated by the Legend Charitable Trust. Trustees are; Ian Winson (Chairman), Katherine Winson, Garth Gilmour, Gary Lydiard, Michael Macmillan & Aaron Carter. The Legend and Arthur's Half MarathonAll events follow the famous Waiatarua routes (set in the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland ) previously used by Arthur Lydiard to train his prodigies - elite athletes such as Sir Peter Snell and Sir Murray Halberg, among others such as the Arch Jelley-trained Sir John Walker. Arthur's training courses are now world-renowned and countless elite and not-so-elite athletes from many parts of the world have used them, and still do, as a key element of their training regimes and schedules. The focus of The Legend event is to celebrate, enjoy and experience the Lydiard training route within a structured race environment. Since Arthur's death in December 2004, the event has grown from a 35km run to a full marathon, half marathon and 10km and 5km run and walk event options. Arthur Lydiard, well known and recognised as the guru of distance running worldwide, was still spreading the word in the United States at the time of his death. The Legend event was an idea conceived by Ian Winson after viewing a television documentary earlier in 2004, featuring a young athlete completing a run on the Lydiard training route. Contact was made with Arthur to seek permission to organise an event in his name, he gave his blessing and written permission - The Legend event was born. 2011 Event Video Click here to view the full feature video of this event on 2010 Interviews Video Click here to view a video of interviews from this event on none
