Dizzy Daze Marathon & Half marathon, 50K, 100K Dizzy Daze Marathon & Half marathon, 50K, 100K Marathon Directory Marathon Details Dizzy Daze Marathon & Half marathon, 50K, 100K Seattle, WA USA March 23, 2013 Results – 2009 Results – 2010 ..About Dizzy Daze By Loopy Loops On November 30, 2010 · Leave a Comment ....All the pain and suffering of an ultra, without the annoying change in scenery! Dizzy Daze 13.1/26.2/50K/100K March 26, 2011 – 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 6:00 a.m. Early Start Dizzy Daze is held at beautiful Green Lake Park in Seattle, Wa. The race uses the outer running loop around the lake. Runners will travel counter-clockwise on the groomed dirt path. The total distance of the loop is approximately 3.2 miles; you will run 4 loops plus a short out & back for the half marathon, 8 loops plus an out & back for the full marathon, 10 loops for the 50K (yes, you’ll run a bonus mile, for which you will not be charged extra) and 19 loops plus an out & back for the 100K. For those with more sense there will be a 13.1-mile and an official 26.2-mile marathon distance (not a certified BQ, sorry). The 13.1 will be Half Fanatics applicable, and the marathon distance will fulfill Marathon Maniacs requirements. The trail is a partially paved, pancake-flat loop, making it a great course for a PR or to attempt a new distance. There will be one fully stocked aid station with all the usual ultra-kibble: water; PowerBar gels, energy blasts and sports drink; electrolyte caps; a selection of sweet and salty snacks and pizza later in the day. Dizzy Daze is the brainchild of Jonathan Bernard, who along with Sam Thompson set out to create Seattle’s hardest and easiest 50K/100K races. The Carkeek 12-Hour is nothing but hills and Dizzy Daze has nothing remotely resembling one. This year Dizzy will be a joint production of a tanned Jonathan (who deserted us for sunnier climes but promises an appearance) and the Two Cats Running crew, also known as Matt and Betsy. I can't waot to meet the cats.::::. Birch Bay Marathon & Half Marathon, 10K Birch Bay Marathon & Half Marathon, 10K Marathon Details Race Date February 17, 2013 Birch Bay Marathon & Half Marathon, 10K Birch Bay, WA USA Birch Bay Marathon History In 1968 Jim Freeman, Jim Pearson, and Evan Smith met to form the Snohomish Track Club, an organization which Smith felt should host as Pacific Northwest AAU championships all distances sponsored by the AAU at the national level. Each of the three would personally host one event. Pearson picked the marathon. A Birch Bay resident at the time, he had been lost during the hard-to-follow Victoria marathon, and his friend John Bodoia had been hit by a bus during the Vancouver marathon. With these two things in mind, Pearson decided that a run from the Birch Bay State Park to Bay Center, twice around the Birch Point loop, and then back to the park would be the safest to run and the easiest to follow without getting lost. Since the bath house in the park did not open until April 1, the first weekend in April became race day. With that, the Birch Bay marathon was born. Pearson continued to direct the race through 1991 except for two years during the ‘80s when Dick Henrie and the Greater Bellingham Running Club took over. When a Seattle marathon moved to a spot in April, Pearson moved the race to December, and the race of nearly 200 runners dropped to subsistence level. In 1992 Vancouver, BC’s Karl Jensen took over the race for several years, followed by Dave Dutton of Mount Vernon who put on the race for several years.. The race returned to GBRC command in 2005 with Western Washington University Math Chairman Tjalling Ypma at the helm. He moved the race to February, and the numbers started to increase. Jim’s son Joel Pearson joined Ypma as co-director in 2006 and now directs the race himself. Originally measured twice with a wheel, the course was officially AAU certified before the 1971 race with 290 total yards added to the original course. Though the course has remained basically the same, a road change near Semiahmoo made re-certification necessary before the 2007 race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WA
