Watchung Winter MarathonWatchung Winter Marathon Join us on January 7th, 2012 for a run through beautiful Watchung Reservation in north-central NJ. These low-key, minimal-support, informal trail runs will provide an excellent opportunity to test your mid-winter training. •Four options: 10k, 10M, trail marathon or trail 50K. •Three distances follow the same course - Sierra Trail a 10 mile loop ( /- a few ft. your gps may vary) •Marathoners (2 loops) for the first 20 miles then complete a shorter loop (possibly 27 miles total) •The Marathoner shorter loop will be used for the 10K. •50K runners will complete 3 loops of the Sierra Trail for an estimated 32 miles. •Single-wide and double wide trail over rolling wooded terrain. When: 8:00 am on January 7th, 2012. Where: Start and Finish at the Loop by the Playground. map Entry fee: $25 - I know this has been a Fat Ass style run in the past but due to increased awareness by the park and authorities there are now significant costs to putting on this event. In order to cover the costs of the permits, insurance there is a nominal cost of $25 per runner. This is also in hopes to limit the number of people that sign up taking a spot from some one else and then never show up to run. NO SHIRTS, NO AWARDS ONLINE REGISTRATION Online Registration closes the Wednesday before the race. You will be able to register the day of the race (cash). Limit: Parking spots. parking will be along W R Tracy Drive around the Loop. You will not pass your car while running. You will be allowed to go to your car or bring out a cooler to place near the race course. Please consider trying to bring A DONATION FOR UNITED WAY or a volunteer to help out. To volunteer you can also send an email to NJ Trail Series. Hours volunteered can be used in your service requirement for other ultras. Notes from practice loops (from 2010): The ground was very icy from the cold weather we have had lately. The western half is hillier and has more single track, the eastern part is flatter with wider paths and almost all bridle paths. The horse stables are on the eastern half of the reservation so this makes perfect sense. NJ

Why not raise it another level and have a 50K? I am sure many ultra runners would love to have this as an option. I know I would!!! Would it be a possibility? FIRST CALL MARATHON DATE: January 2, 2012 This is an awesome Marathon with great scenery and fresh air. As well known, this north western state has rainfall which makes for fresh air runing like no where else. The trees and natural terrain will enhance your run. There is also a half-marathon for those who love the run of 13.6 miles. Our Next run will be on MONDAY Jan 2, 2012. Start the new year right with a good run! We've had rain, we've had snow, we've had frozen gatorade. What more could you ask for? If this craziness sounds like your idea of a good time, then join us to kick off the new year. This will be another low key run, along the Sammamish River Trail, just north and east of Seattle. The trail is a paved trail, shared with others, and is mostly flat. (Our biggest hill is the bridge in the picture) The half is an out and back, the whole is a double out and back. There are a couple of public restrooms along the path, and we share the road with other runners, bikes, and occasional small birds and animals. Be prepared to be self sufficient. There are no crowds. There will be water/gatorade along the way. You should run with a bottle, and you can refill at these stops. We'll have food at the start/finish area, which is also the half way stop for the marathon. The 50K has an additional 2.4 mile out and back. You will not receive a T Shirt, but we do have medals! Thanks to Steve Walters who is making those. Registration is open to all runners. There is no cost to run, but donations are appreciated. A special thanks to those who donate, you make these runs possible. You can donate online through pay pal, or at the event. WA
